This is an entire page dedicated to Link's height. You heard right. Though actual numbers are never given (much like his age *stabs Nintendo*), with the release of Soul Calibur II, we can calculate his height based on how he measures up to other characters. And the closest match to Link is Talim. 4'8" Talim. Yes... I'm going to give Link the benefit of the doubt and say he's around 4'11"/ 5'0" since his knees are bent.
Are all Hylians this short, or is Link a special case? Zelda is around the same height, and when Link is compared to other Hylians, he appears average. Of course, he's constantly squatting. What's up with that posture, boy?
Trees and other plants in Hyrule are proportionate to Hylians - they aren't extremely oversized. Why then did Nintendo (or Namco?) choose to make Link so short in SCII? Did the character designers decide he resembled a gnome? Was someone half drunk? I vote yes to all of the above. And maybe add in some magic mushrooms. Yay this section makes no sense.
Now for something that makes much more sense - an analysis sent in by Jackie!
"After reading the Link's height section (and once I finished snickering at the thought of him being that short) I somehow developed the urge to find out (an estimated guess off) Link's height for myself, being the total math geek that I am.
"I based my calculation on the official picture of Link standing next to Epona. Now I'm not sure exactly what bread of horse Epona is, but I am told that it is a Clydesdale. She seems to resemble one (large joints, feathered ankles, straight profile face, etc.) so we'll say she is for this. The general height for a Clydesdale (to the whithers) is 16.5 hands, or 5' 6". Link stands 1/18 of this height taller that Epona's whithers, so that makes him around 5' 9" and 2/3 inches."
5'9" sounds better to me... But on a final note, Link stands as tall as Samus in SSBM. Samus, in her suit, is said to be 6'3". Since SSBM features cartoony characters as well as humanoid characters, I would depend on SCII stats before I took SSBM stats seriously. Another theory could be that Hyrule in general contains beings of smaller stature than those in the "real world".
It's times like these that I just want to punch Nintendo. Hard.
